Karla is restoring the land her family was given barren.

Karla Rocío Moreno Pérez is part of Esteros de Acapan, a community still recovering from Guatemala's 36-year civil war. Their land was granted barren, with forests gone and soil stripped of nutrients. Each seedling Karla plants is a step back from that. The community is rebuilding agroforestry from the ground up, with jacaranda, jicaro, mango and avocado now taking hold where nothing grew.

"Thanks to this project, I can take my son to health check-ups and care for my crops. Restoration Era has helped me support my family."
